The mission of the Women, Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN) is to link and empower women to build food systems and communities that are healthy, just, sustainable, and that promote environmental integrity.
WFAN’s three programming areas are:
- A mentorship program for new and aspiring women farmers.
- Outreach to women landowners to provide education and resources about conservation methods they can implement on their land.
- Supporting and strengthening the national leadership role of women transforming our nation’s food system through healthy food and farming.
WFAN hosts amazing annual conferences. Last year the keynote speaker was Dr Robin Kimmerer, a distinguished teaching professor of environmental and forest biology at the State University of New York. She is also founding director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment, and author of the popular books Braiding Sweetgrass and Gathering Moss. Dr. Kimmerer’s keynote was about living in reciprocity with the land, and I hear it was totally inspirational–I’m sure it was, as I was totally moved by this On Being interview with Dr. Kimmerer on “The Intelligence in All Kinds of Life”
This year, the theme of the WFAN Conference is Women and Permaculture: Making a Living in Harmony with the Land, from Nov. 4 – 5, 2016 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. I’m deeply honored to have been invited to share my insights as the keynote speaker, and humbled to be following in the footsteps of the visionary women who go before me. I’ll be working on the title of the talk–which will revolve around this theme: “Co-Creating our Regenerative Future: Why Permaculture? Why Women? Why Now”, and share an update soon.
In gratitude,
Karryn
